On May 16, a ship was spotted by the authorities west of Havana in Cuba. After many futile attempts to communicate with the crew, three patrol boats were mobilized to intercept it.
The patrol boats were surprised because the ship was a nearly 100-year oil steamer known as Cotopaxi, which was a name linked with the legend of the Bermuda Triangle. The ship seemed to have been abandoned for decades, which suggested it could be the tramp freighter that vanished in 1925.
Captain’s logbook was found after a thorough search of the ship, which was actually associated with the Clinchfield Navigation Company, the owners of the SS Cotopaxi. Anyway, there were still no clues of what happened to the ship over the last 90 years.
Rodolfo Salvador Cruz is an expert from Cuba that believes the authenticity of the captain’s logbook. The found document includes much valuable information about the life of the crew before the disappearance of the ship, but the entries stop suddenly on December 1, 1925.
The ship departed Charleston, South Carolina on November 29, 1925 and it headed towards Havana, Cuba. 32 men were on the ship, which was carrying a cargo of 2340 tons of coal. Two days later it was reported missing and was unheard of for almost 90 years.
Cuban authorities announced that they were going to conduct a detailed investigation to clarify the disappearance and reappearance of the ship.
General Abelardo  Colome, the Vice President of Council of Ministers says it is very important to reveal what really happened because incidents like this can negatively affect Cuban economy. He says it is time to solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle forever.
The Bermuda Triangle is a region covering the area between Miami, Puerto Rico and Bermuda. It is the place where dozens of ships and planes have disappeared under unclarified and mysterious circumstances.
There are many theories about the disappearance of these ships and plane, often relating them with paranormal and supernatural phenomena, even to extraterrestrial beings. All of these theories are popular, but scientists don’t even believe in the Bermuda Triangle. They believe it has happened due to human mistakes and natural phenomena.
However, the reappearance of the SS Cotopaxi made scientists interested and it may even change their mind.
